How to Create an Online Quiz that Converts

Whats a fun way to capture emails? How do I connect with my audience authentically? How do I create interactive lead generation?

These may all be questions you wonder about while trying to find ways to build your brand and build your business. I'm here to tell you that interactive online quizzes are the wave of the future. Creating online quizzes allows you to build rapport with your clients, and offering value without having to produce content on a daily basis. It is the best choice you can make for your business, hands down.

Your business may be brand new, or maybe it's been running for a few years now, but one thing's for sure: every business owner needs to continuously grow their email lists, and provide engaging and useful content. You need traffic, likes, and conversions to keep your business relevant and growing.

And while things like freebies and contests may stir the pot momentarily with opt-in rates of 1-4%, quizzes keep the churn going, with a much higher rate of 17%.This means quizzes convert casual browsers into real people that you can add to mailing lists. Not to mention quizzes have an average conversion rate of 50%.

Are the numbers painting the right picture for ya?

It's a no brainer. Creating an online quiz will allow your business to do all of this and more. Creating one is more simple than you think. Here's why:

You don't need to know how to code/design

You don't need to spend hours coming up with the logic of the quiz

You don't need to come up with ground-breaking original quiz ideas (although you can if you'd like)

The Best way to create an Online Quiz

So you're probably saying to yourself "Okay, Coumba. I get it, I need to create a quiz, and it's super easy. But HOW do I do it?"

I'll tell you how. Using a little something called Try Interact (ref link). Did I mention it's FREE? In this quick overview, I'll show you how to create an online quiz that converts, using my own quiz as an example!

Step 1: Brainstorm

The first step to creating a quiz is thinking about what you want your audience to get out of it. Will they be testing their knowledge on the dos and don'ts of marketing? Are they going to find out what kind of wedding invitations they should get? Will the see how much they know about writing a blog post?

Whatever you decide, you must keep in mind that your quiz needs to be relevant to both your niche and your offerings. When this quiz relates to your offerings, you'll be able to naturally guide them to the next step after you create your quiz. If you have an e-book or a guide, it would be in your interest to create a quiz that can naturally lead up to that.

For me, I've created a DIY-logo guide and questionnaire. This is heavily related to my niche (design/branding) and also related to my offerings (logo design). For this step, I've decided to create a quiz that will help my audience determine an aspect of their branding.

But let's say you don't have a lot of inspiration at the moment, what can you do? Well..

Step 2: Choose your quiz topic and Type

You've drawn a blank, or maybe you have a half-baked idea that just needs some help.

Don't worry, Try Interact has got your back! There are over 200 pre-made quiz templates for you to choose from. This makes it very easy and quick for you to get started on creating your quiz.

  1. Start off by choosing the industry you are in, you're allowed to choose more than one. This allows the system to present niche-relevant quiz subjects for you. For me, I'm in the business and marketing niche!
  1. Next, you'll be asked to choose a quiz type. There are three, and they are broken down like this:
Assessment: A classic quiz where each question has one right answer. The results are graded. eg. How much do you know about marketing?
Personality: No rights or wrongs here. This is a quiz that presents what your personality type is. eg. What kind of Online Marketer are you?
Scored: Each answer has a scored value, and results vary based on the score range. eg. What's your business savvy level?

I opted for the personality quiz, as I thought it would be the most fun for my audience.

Step 3: Customize your Cover Page

After choosing your niche and quiz type, you'll be introduced to a number of relevant and pre-built quizzes to choose from. Take your time and preview the ones that catch your eye. The platform even allows you to sort the quizzes by the highest conversion rate, so you know that you're choosing a good base.

Once you've chosen your base, you can choose to customize the cover page of your quiz using their simple and intuitive interface. The cover page allows you to customize your fonts, colors, logo and image so that it all falls in line with your brand. This step took me less than 5 minutes to complete.

Coming from a designer who has to work with head-ache inducing Photoshop, Illustrator and Sketch, this was a nice change of pace to be able to see changes in real-time with no hassle.

Changing or adding images to your cover page are SUPER simple.

Step 4: Customize your Questions

Cover page is looking on-brand and beautiful, next is the meat of the quiz. It's time to customize those questions!

You can choose to stick with the copy that is there, or you can easily swap out questions and answers for your own. Throughout this process, there are tool tips that let you know the industry tips and standards that work best. These guys know their stuff, so definitely check out the little "i" next to the prompts along the way.

To keep things simple and quick, I chose to keep the copy that was there. However, I did tweak it using my own brand's voice. I try to keep a casual and friendly tone in my copy, and chose to swap out words that were more on brand for me. You're free to do whatever you think is best though, that's the beauty of this quiz maker!

Step 5: Customize your Results

Your clients will have to reach the end of your quiz eventually (keep it short so they don't drop off!). When they do reach the end, you should be there ready to really present your brand's personality along with the value you promised at the beginning.

I chose to stick with the default results category, but I did take the time to polish the copy and images with my own brand-flair. You're able to create and edit results that correspond with answers seamlessly, so customization is limitless.

Remember how I said you had to think of an end-result for your audience? Well, here's the time to show it! For me, it's a link to my DIY logo and branding guide. For you it may be a sign up form for your email list, your next retreat, or latest course. You're able to easily add a call to action at the end of each result, it will drive traffic to your page like crazy!

Step 6: Integrate!

You'll need to connect your quiz to a mail provider of your choice in order to capture those emails. Listen to me when I say this: It is so easy.

Simply choose from their list of email providers and in a few clicks you'll have your quiz set up to collect emails, and even segment them into lists based off of their quiz answers and results. This is incredibly useful data for your business and a game changer for all of your future email marketing campaigns.

Step 6: Publish

And in no time you're able to create a customized quiz that creates value for your audience, while also capturing emails and driving traffic. You didn't need to code, or go through a whole course to learn how to.

Now its time for the final step! Publishing your awesome quiz and sharing it with your audience. The obvious first place to keep it is your website. This is very simple to do, just choose the website option for publishing and you'll be able to copy the code they generate, send it to your developer, or even add it as a Wordpress plugin!

Other options include sharing the quiz as a social media post and creating a facebook ad!

I'm pumped about my easy, new solution to creating engaging quizzes, and I hope you are too. I was able to create my first quiz in under an hour, but I know in the future I'd like to create another quiz with more results and different questions.

In all honesty, the only challenging thing about the whole process was coming up with my own quiz topic. I'm used to making everything from scratch, but they made it so easy to choose a template and run with it!

All in all, I really think this tool is a no-brainer when it comes to content creation. It adds another facet of your business and it doesn't take much time or effort to implement. I'm so glad I have this awesome tool in my kit for the future!
